The inner ring, typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, protects the sealing element from severe temperatures and harsh mediums. It efficiently fills the void between flanges, thereby preventing erosion and reducing the likelihood of failure. According to the stringent DIN 2699 standard, inner rings are mandatory for all spiral wound gaskets, particularly those with PTFE filler as per ASME B16.20 standards, and are crucial for graphite fillers. This gasket profile is ideally suited for raised and flat-faced flanges. The external guide ring provides extra radial strength to avert gasket blowout and functions as a reliable compression stop.
