This exceptional spiral wound gasket features a robust outer and inner ring. The inner ring is meticulously inserted to elevate gasket performance, ensuring precise centering on the flange face with an external guide ring. The integration of the inner ring prevents gasket collapse into the pipe during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme conditions, fills the flange void to avert erosion, and minimizes failure risks. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the German DIN 2699 standard, mandating its presence in all spiral wound gaskets. ASME B16.20 standards also require inner rings for gaskets with PTFE filler and consider them crucial for graphite fillers. This design is predominantly utilized in raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring provides essential radial strength to avert gasket blowout and serves as a compression stop, often manufactured from carbon steel with corrosion-resistant finishes or alloys for high-temperature and stringent medium applications.
