This top-tier spiral wound gasket boasts a robust outer and inner ring. The inner ring, expertly inserted, significantly enhances gasket performance. An external guide ring precisely centers the gasket on the flange face. The inner ring is indispensable, preventing the gasket from imploding into the pipe during installation, shielding the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh mediums, and filling the void between flanges to prevent erosion. The inner ring, typically made from the same alloy as the winding, is crucial for maintaining integrity. According to DIN 2699 (German Standard), inner rings are mandatory in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE filler, ASME B16.20 standards stipulate the necessity of inner rings, which are also highly recommended for graphite fillers. This design is ideal for raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring furnishes extra radial strength, preventing gasket blowout and serving as a compression stop. It is generally made of carbon steel—painted or zinc plated to resist corrosion—but can also be crafted from alloys for high-temperature and severe medium applications.
