This spiral wound gasket, ingeniously designed with a robust outer and inner ring, is crafted to deliver unparalleled performance. The addition of an inner ring significantly enhances gasket durability and effectiveness. It precisely centers the gasket on the flange face, preventing the gasket from collapsing into the pipe during installation. Further, it shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh mediums, filling the gap between flanges to avert flange erosion and minimize failure risks. Typically, the inner ring is composed of the same alloy as the winding material, adhering to the DIN 2699 standard, which mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. As per ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are essential for gaskets with PTFE filler and crucial for graphite fillers. This configuration is primarily applied in raised and flat-faced flanges, where the external ring bolsters radial strength to avert gasket blowout and serves as a compression stop. The outer ring, often made of corrosion-resistant carbon steel (painted or zinc-plated), can also be manufactured from alloys to withstand higher temperatures and more severe environments.
