To elevate its performance, an inner ring has been strategically incorporated, serving multiple crucial functions: it enhances the gasket's stability during installation by preventing implosion into the pipe, safeguards the sealing element against extreme temperatures and aggressive media, fills voids between flanges to avert flange erosion, and minimizes failure risks. This inner ring, typically crafted from the same high-grade alloy as the winding, complies with DIN 2699 standards, mandating inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. Furthermore, the ASME B16.20 standards necessitate an inner ring for PTFE-filled gaskets and recommend it for those with graphite fillers. This particular profile is ideally suited for both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external guide ring not only adds crucial radial strength to thwart gasket blowout but also acts as a precise compression stop. While usually made from carbon steel, painted or zinc-plated for corrosion resistance, the outer ring can also be fabricated from specialty alloys for applications demanding higher temperature resilience and exposure to more severe media.
